Beginners guide
New to mining? Plain-language walkthrough of pools, coins, fees, and your first connection.
What is mining?
Your hardware repeatedly hashes block candidates. When it finds a hash hard enough for the network, it earns the block reward. SoloBit Miners gives your gear a stratum endpoint so many miners can work on the same coin without running a full node template stack yourself.
What is a share?
A share is proof you did useful work at a difficulty the pool assigned. Shares do not pay by themselves on Solo — they prove you are hashing. On FairShare, shares over a 7-day window determine how the block reward is split when the pool finds a block.
What is pool mining?
Instead of aiming at the whole network alone with no coordination, you connect to SoloBit and submit shares.
- Solo (1%) — you still only win when your worker finds the block (minus 1% fee).
- FairShare (0%) — when anyone on that FairShare pool finds a block, the reward is split fairly (29% finder · 5% loyalty · 66% PPLNS).
Pick a coin
SoloBit runs SHA-256 / SHA-256d pools for:
- BTC — Bitcoin, highest difficulty
- BCH — Bitcoin Cash
- DGB — DigiByte SHA-256d (multi-algo coin; we mine the SHA lane)
- HOBC — HobbyHash, Tri-PoW; SoloBit mines the SHA race
You need a wallet address for that coin before you start.
Hardware that works here
Any SHA-256 miner that speaks stratum: Antminer, Whatsminer, Avalon, Bitaxe / Nerdaxe boards, and most home ESP-miner firmware. GPU/CPU miners are usually the wrong tool for these coins — stick to SHA ASICs or Bitaxe-class devices.
Connect your miner (minimum settings)
stratum+tcp://solobitminers.com:PORT Worker: YOUR_ADDRESS.rig1 Password: x
Pick the port from the getting started table, or let Smart Connect recommend Low / Med / High for your hashrate.
How to know it is working
- Open your pool page — status should say Online.
- Your worker appears under Active miners within about a minute.
- Accepted share count rises; rejected stays near zero.
- Optional: check the leaderboard or pool stats.
Understanding luck
Solo mining is lottery-like. A calculator shows the average time to a block — you might find one sooner or much later. FairShare smooths that variance across the pool. Neither mode guarantees a schedule.
Safety basics
- Double-check the worker address — typos send rewards to someone else.
- Prefer a wallet you control over a random exchange deposit tag.
- Keep firmware updated; monitor heat and power like any always-on device.
- Public pages show worker names, not full payout addresses.
